- It is a former capital of Brazil (1763-1960) and of the Portuguese Empire (1808-1821).
- Commonly known as just Rio (particularly in English and by its inhabitants), the city is famous for its spectacular natural setting, the Carnival celebrations, samba and other music, hotel-lined tourist beaches, such as Copacabana, Ipanema, and Leblon, pavements decorated with black and cream swirl pattern mosaics, and the easy-going lifestyle of its inhabitants.
- Rio also boasts the world's largest forest inside an urban area, called Floresta da Tijuca, or 'Tijuca Forest'.

- Also known as Rainbow Bridge, is a natural rock span of salmon-red Navajo sandstone arching over Bridge Canyon.
- It is located about 12 miles northwest of Navajo Mountain in broken and deep canyon country of southern Utah.
- A dirt road goes part of the way to Navajo Mountain. There is no road that connects Navajo Mountain to Rainbow Natural Bridge; therefore, people wishing to see Rainbow Natural Bridge coming from Navajo Mountain will have to hike.

- Location: Michoacan, Mexico
- Type: Cinder Cone
- Age of Rock: 64 years
- Last Eruption: 1952
- A volcano in the Mexican state of Michoacán, close to a lava-covered village of the same name. It appears on many versions of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World list.
- Like most cinder cones, Parícutin is a monogenetic volcano, which means that it will never erupt again.
- Volcanism is a common part of the Mexican landscape.
- Parícutin is merely the youngest of more than 1,400 volcanic vents that exist in the Trans-Mexican volcanic belt.
- The volcano is unique in the fact that its formation was witnessed from its very conception. Amazingly not one recorded death was caused by the eruption, although three people died as a result of lightning strikes caused by the eruptions.
